The news has saddened all of us at Carolyn’s Coffee Connection. Our deepest condolences are extended to his wife Karen, his children, Jennifer Kirkby, Mary Beth Moran, David Kirkby, and Carolyn Kirkby, his five grandchildren and all family members.

It was with the support and guidance of her father that Carolyn was able to not only open Coffee Connection at its original location of Sixth Ave, but to grow it into what she has today on 52nd Street. There were many times that Carolyn wanted to throw in the towel over the last 5 years, but her Dad would continue to encourage her and believe in her when she doubted herself.

From Carolyn:

Without my father, the cafe wouldn’t exist. I will be forever grateful that he saw abilities in me I didn’t think I had. My world is not as full as it was a week ago but through the strength and wisdom of my Dad, the love and support of friends, my family and I will get through this. MY father taught us to be strong and believe in ourselves no matter what obstacles landed in our path. Losing my Dad is by far the largest obstacle I have yet to encounter but I trust he will be by my side as I continue on my journey. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love & support my family & I have received and there are no words to convey what it has meant to us.

We will be forever grateful.

Come and enjoy a jazzy mix of your Christmas favorites performed by the Kal Bergendahl Project at Carolyn’s Coffee Connection.

Founded in the fall of 2005, the Kal Bergendahl Project (KBP) steps into the worlds of vocal R&B, pop, and smooth jazz, creating a unique and interesting blend of music that attracts a wide audience. The group’s sounds are reminiscent of David Sanborn and Kirk Whalum on the jazz side and Norah Jones and John Mayer on the pop side.

Melodic variety is a key element of the KBP’s style, as a live show features pop and soul vocal melodies incorporated with instrumental melodies led by the saxophone, guitar and bass. This variety creates an intriguing musical texture that can be led by any member in the band.

To kick off the holiday season, join The Wisconsin Chamber Brass Quintet for an open rehearsal of Christmas carols as the prepare for their holiday tour of Wisconsin.

Welcome to our 9th BeExposed! event on Friday, November 19. We will have a full schedule for you as usual. This month we have two different types of music coming to Carolyn’s Coffee Connection: Hunter McKenzie, a student from Carthage will be playing solo, and Jeff and Abi Stevens, local musical duo, will play for us as well. We also have two amazing speakers: Maureen Cashin Bolog from Actor’s Craft will talk about the success of her company and actors from our neck of the woods, as well as show some demos of their work; Karen Carnabucci will explain and discuss the new world sweeping therapy she practices entitled “Ancestors, Constellations, and Healing”. There’s a lot going on and the energy should be fantastic! Hope to see you there!

Opened in 2005, Carolyn’s is where people come together over great food and exceptional coffee. In 2009, Carolyn moved to her current location at 1351 52nd St. Only steps away from the lakefront, the new building allows her to participate in the 52nd Street renaissance while hosting regular artistic events and gallery showings in the expanded event space. Carolyn’s renovations of the previously neglected building include the addition of a drive-through and plentiful parking, a children’s playroom, and extensive seating for both public and private events.

The Reclaimers began performing their brand of bluegrass/folk music together in 2008 for local church services. The fine musicians members of this group (Curtis Bewley, Phil Davis, Laura Goetz, Elliott Nott & Catherine Webb) each bring a wealth of musical experience, knowledge and style. They take turns singing lead while the others masterfully create harmony lines.
