The Kenosha Art association student’s work will be on display, Terri Gilliland, author of In A Moment, will be signing books from 6-7 pm. Her story of three challenging moments in time – going blind, her husband’s debilitating motorcycle accident, and her son’s brain tumor – offers an inspirational message of courage and the ability to rise above the challenges life gives us. At 7:00 Terri, who is an in-demand public speaker, will give a live presentation. After Terri’s speech, J&H Crossing (Jason Kent and Heather Montague) and Blue Edge of the Prairie (Kerry Spitzer and Janice Swartz) will both be performing. These bands have often jammed together in the past and though they are performing independently, it would not be a surprise to see them blending their work together for even more fun!

When: August 4, 2010, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Where: Carolyn’s Coffee Connection

The Reclaimers began performing their brand of bluegrass/folk music together in 2008 for local church services. The fine musicians members of this group (Curtis Bewley, Phil Davis, Laura Goetz, Elliott Nott & Catherine Webb) each bring a wealth of musical experience, knowledge and style. They take turns singing lead while the others masterfully create harmony lines. In addition to the five wonderful voices, their concerts are filled with the traditional sounds of the Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Fiddle, Bass and Percussion.</

Carolyn Kirkby, owner of Carolyn’s Coffee Connection, 1351 52nd St., said surviving difficult economic times means being able to adapt.

For her, that meant opening up in an unlikely location, in a newly renovated building on a traditionally gritty urban stretch just west of the Union Pacific Railroad viaduct.

“I’m able to kind of do more over here and focus more on growing my business,” Kirkby said.

A drive-through window provides early-morning service to users of the nearby Metra station, and the coffee shop recently began selling train station parking passes.

Kirkby said she’s also marketing her business for parties and other group events — Carolyn’s hosted its first baby shower last weekend, she said. Beginning this weekend, she will close the shop earlier, at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays, to devote her staff to private events.

In spite of its name, Italian sodas originated in the United States, not Italy. One claimant to the introduction and increased popularity of Italian sodas is Torani: Rinaldo and Ezilda Torre brought recipes for flavored syrups from Lucca, Italy and in 1925 introduced what become known as an Italian soda to the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, California

White Chocolate, Cinnamon and Caramel

A cinnamon roll (also cinnamon bun, cinnamon swirl and cinnamon snail) is a sweet pastry found commonly in Northern Europe and North America. It consists of a rolled sheet of yeast dough onto which a cinnamon and sugar mixture (and raisins or chopped grapes in some cases) is sprinkled over a thin coat of butter. The dough is then rolled, cut into individual portions, and baked. Cinnamon rolls are frequently topped with icing (often confectioner’s sugar based) or glaze of some sort, or (most common in northern Europe) nib sugar.
