Wisconsin Art Board is coming to Kenosha to hear what matters to artists in Racine/Kenosha. This month energizing discussion about the arts is hosted by ExposeKenosha.com and Wisconsin Arts Board

Visit Carolyn’s Coffee Connection, 1351 52nd St., Kenosha, on Thursday, July 22 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. as Racine and Kenosha visual and performing artists, writers, and supporters of the arts come together for discussion and developing direction toward building a better network for the arts in SW Wisconsin.

As a matter of fact, we had such a great time we’re going to do it again! BeExposed! 5.1 (most of the same great people, but this time hopefully WITH power) will happen on July 16th at 6pm.

The “Hairless Potter” will bring his pottery wheel, Rebecca Lauren Miller will share her poetry and her “Wizard of Oz” series of visual art, and “The Bakers” and Raymond K. Roberts will be back.
Julianne and Allysin, our violin duet, have other commitments, but we’ll be presenting some exciting new artists: Zachary Scot Johnson from Minneapolis will make BeExposed! a stop on his 2010 tour and J&H Crossing(Jason Kent and Heather Montague) will be performing during the reception (6-7pm).

And just in case the weather works against us (who knew Carolyn couldn’t control the weather?!) we’ve contracted with the local pet shop for hamsters and wheels to power the espresso machine.

BeExposed! 5.1 Friday, July 16th at Carolyn’s Coffee Connection. The evening begins at 6:00 and the entertainment goes till around 9:00. Drinks of all kinds are available for purchase, as is food. Community, conversation, and entertainment are on the house!

The Wisconsin Marathon
This is a second year marathon, half marathon, and new Family Fitness Walk presented by Jockey. The post-race party is open to the community.

Student nurses at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside will host a charity gala Saturday, April 24, to benefit southeastern Wisconsin Special Olympics. The 4th annual event, sponsored by the Student Nurses Association at Parkside (SNAP), begins at 5:30 p.m. at Marina Shores, located at 302 58th St. in Kenosha.

“SNAP chose Special Olympics because it provides sports training and competition for nearly 10,000 athletes with cognitive disabilities in 18 different sports year-round,” said SNAP secretary Scott Mingilino. We ask anyone who wants to support this wonderful organization, an organization that does so much for the disabled in our community, to join us for the gala.”

Mingilino said the evening includes cocktails, a buffet dinner, speakers from Special Olympics-Wisconsin, live and silent auctions, and dancing to the Pat Crawford Big Band. He added that every penny raised during the event goes to Special Olympics.

Also during the evening, SNAP honors two of its most dedicated supporters: UW-Parkside Physics Professor Paul Mohazzabi as well as Jenny and John Heim and family and Heim’s Downtown Toy Store.

The SNAP Gala raised money for a different charitable organization each year. Past recipients of funds from this event include the Susan J. Komen Cancer Foundation, the southeastern Wisconsin Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Kenosha Community Health Center.

SNAP is a student organization in the consortial nursing program based at UW-Parkside and administered by UW-Milwaukee.
